Enhancing Biodegradation of Industrial Wastewater into Methane-Rich Biogas Using an Up-Flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket Reactor

Anaerobic digestion (AD), the oldest technology used for treating waste, converts organic matter into biogas in absence of oxygen. The current efforts focuses on improving a local industrial wastewater to produce and treat water reuse. A lab-scale up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor operated at 37 °C was employed biodegradation wastewater. one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) approach study effects influent chemical oxygen demand (CODin), hydraulic retention time (HRT), magnetic nanoparticles (magnetite) UASB COD elimination from digestate optimum HRT municipal found be 21 days with contaminants’ removals 94%, 90.1%, 98.9% COD, color, turbidity, respectively. addition magnetite resulted 225 mL cumulative produced 73% methane content, treatability efficiency 85%. most influential factor load, which stimulated microbial activity via redox catalytic reaction degrading high (9590 mg COD/L) production. prospects upgrading this technological concept bioenergy production is viable mitigate management fossil fuel environmental challenges.
